Domaine de Solitude Rouge
The 2022 Rouge from Domaine de la Solitude (Pessac-Léognan) reveals a gourmand, fresh bouquet of cassis, mulberries and flowers. Moderately weighted, supple and satiny, it's perfectly balanced with a juicy core of fruit, velvety tannins and bright acids, concluding with a fresh, sweet and penetrating finish. This blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot matured for 18 months in a combination of new (35%) and used barrels. It is a charming, exquisite wine. WA 90
L'Esprit de Chevalier Blanc
The 2022 L'Esprit de Chevalier Blanc reveals a pure, delicate bouquet of pear, peach, flowers, anise and spices. Medium to full-bodied, layered and satiny, it’s ample and concentrated, framed by delicate dry extracts and bright acids that segue into a long, fresh and delicate finish. This is a real success. WA 92
Domaine de Chevalier Blanc
The 2022 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc has turned out brilliantly in bottle, wafting from the glass with aromas of pear, jasmine, white flowers, spring blossoms and spices. Medium to full-bodied, layered and enveloping, it's charming and sappy with a dense structure, bright acids, gastronomic bitterness and a long, saline and mouthwatering finish. Confirming my expectations, this blend of 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Sémillon is one of the best white wines of the vintage. It should gain harmony with age. WA 95
L'Esprit de Chevalier Rouge
The 2022 L'Esprit de Chevalier unfurls from the glass with aromas of cassis, mulberries, spices and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, textured and layered, it’s elegant and seamless with good depth at the core and youthful, delicate tannins. Concluding with a long, penetrating and ethereal finish, this blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot is a real success. WA 92
Domaine de Chevalier Rouge
Commemorating his 40th harvest at the helm of the estate, Olivier Bernard has crafted a wine of abundant promise. Evoking aromas of dark wild berries, spices, smoke and licorice, framed by a deft touch of new oak, the 2022 Domaine de Chevalier possesses a medium to full-bodied, concentrated and rich palate, with an elegant, fleshy core of fruit, abundant powdery tannins and a long, delicate and dark berry-inflected finish. Noticeably less toasty and spicy than in the previous year, this estate has positively evolved in style. Matured for 18 months in a combination of new (35%) and used barrels, the 2022 is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc. WA 96

Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion
2021 Le C des Carmes
The 2021 Le C des Carmes Haut-Brion, a blend driven by Cabernet Sauvignon, possesses a charming, gourmand bouquet with aromas of rose, cherries, violet, blueberry and spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, juicy and supple palate with a lively mid-palate and a delicate core of fruit that segues into a long, penetrating and mouthwatering finish. WA 92
Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion
The 2022 Les Carmes Haut-Brion is the finest wine bottled to date at this estate under Patrice Pichet's ownership and Guillaume Pouthier's direction. Unfurling from the glass with aromas of violet, iris, dark wild berries, pencil lead and mulberries, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated with a deep core of fruit beautifully framed by velvety, precise tannins, segueing into a long, saline and perfumed finish. Suave and harmonious, it was crafted with 70% whole bunches and matured in 70% new oak. This unconventional blend of 40% Cabernet Franc, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon and 26% Merlot represents a turning point for the estate, cementing its rapid ascendancy in the Bordeaux firmament. WA 100
Bord 3

Château Giscours
Sirene de Giscours
Château Giscours
The 2022 Giscours has realized all the potential it showed en primeur, wafting from the glass with a deep bouquet of sweet berries, mint, rose petals and pencil shavings. Medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, it's textural and enveloping, built around lively acids and sweet powdery tannins, concluding with a long, resonant finish. As I pondered two years ago, why is the 2022 so good? There are many reasons, but one is the high proportion of old vines—almost 60% of the blend derives from vines that are over 50 years old—in a vintage that favored vines with deep, well-established root systems. Another is the increasing precision of harvesting at this address: Giscours's old vines are frequently co-planted with younger replacements that have filled any gaps in the ranks over the years; so, blocks are now picked in two or three passages instead of all at once, with the younger vines picked first. The team also adapted hedging practices to limit hydric stress, which helps to explain the sweetness of the tannins. WA 96
Bord 4
2022 Château Malescot St-Exupéry · 3. Grand Cru Classé · Margaux
Offering up aromas of rich blackberries, cassis, sweet spices, pencil shavings and creamy new oak, the 2022 Malescot St. Exupery is medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with a broad attack that segues into a layered core of expressive fruit that's framed by sweet, powdery tannins. A blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, this is one of the appellation's most flamboyant wines, but it retains good balance and boasts a healthy pH of 3.65. WA 93-95
Bord 5

Château Rauzan-Gassies
2022 Château Croizet-Bages · 5. Grand Cru Classé · Pauillac
Silky texture on the opening beats, clear depth to the black fruit, slightly drying tannins that just close things off on the finish but this has Pauillac typicity in spades, with charcoal, graphite and crushed rock character, great stuff. Jane Anson 92
2022 Château Rauzan-Gassies · 2. Grand Cru Classé · Margaux
A highly successful Rauzan Gassies that provides a understated, nuanced interpretation of the vintage, with waves of red rose and peony floral aromatics and toasted spice from the first nose. Has depth and concentration of black cherry and cassis fruits, and balances the flash of heat with plenty of white pepper and cinnammon notes, fresh lemongrass acidities and a lift through the palate. Impressive from the Quié family, and should be good value. Jane Anson 93
Bord 6

Château Rauzan-Ségla
2022 Ségla · Margaux
Knitted down character to the tannins, this is intense and concentrated, edges of fig and mint, charcoal and chocolate, bright spice complexity rosemary and aniseed, subtle with life and energy. 20% new oak, 45% of production in Ségla. Jane Anson 92
2022 Château Rauzan-Ségla · 2. Grand Cru Classé · Margaux
The 2022 Rauzan-Ségla is a beautifully sensual, charming wine, bursting with aromas of cherries, dark berries and plums mingled with hints of violets, sweet loamy soil and pencil shavings. Medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, it's fleshy and enveloping, with an ample core of vibrant fruit, supple tannins and a long, succulent finish. The 2022 is a blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot; and in 2022, the east-facing sides of the vines, which see the afternoon sun, were picked separately, along with anything that showed signs of stress. WA 96-97
2022 Château Berliquet · Grand Cru Classé · Saint-Émilion
The 2022 Berliquet is brilliant, bursting with aromas of plums, wild berries and lilac, followed by a medium to full-bodied, concentrated and vibrant palate that's deep and mineral. It's likely to be another of the vintage's more attractive en primeur proportions. This estate just goes from strength to strength—and that's before its new winery has been constructed! One of the most significant changes has been opting to retain higher canopies, which means that the fruiting zone of rows planted along the slope are now shaded, preserving freshness. WA 94-95
2022 Croix Canon · Saint-Émilion Grand Cru
A terrific effort that will likely number among the values of the vintage, the 2022 Croix Canon offers up aromas of dark berries, petals and warm spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy palate framed by supple tannins and concluding with a saline finish. It will offer a broad drinking window. WA 91-93
2022 Château Canon · 1. Grand Cru Classé · Saint-Émilion
From an estate that is delivering its greatest run of vintages since the superb Post War series that preceded the frosts of 1956, the 2022 Canon is a magical wine that will be worth every effort to track down. Wafting from the glass with aromas of dark berries, wild plums and cherries mingled with hints of bay leaf, spices and violets, it's full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, with huge levels of concentration, vibrant acids and beautifully refined tannins. Concluding with a long, saline finish, this pure, perfumed and ineffably complete Canon is built for the ages, even if its structural polish is such that it will be approachable at a surprisingly early age. Château Ferrière
Château La Gurgue 2022 · Margaux · Biodynamique
Emphasis on Petit Verdot at La Gurgue, and this kicks off with black pepper spice, a ton of dark intense fruits, mushroom, undergrowth, edges of baked plum but also eucalyptus and mint, there is balance and interest here. 25hl/h yield, 3.6ph, harvest September 9 to 30. 15% new oak, 35% barrels of one wine, 35% in concrete eggs, 15% amphora for ageing. Jane Anson 91
Château Ferrière 2022 · 3. Grand Cru Classé · Margaux · Biodynamique
Tobacco leaf, raspberry puree, there is an appealing earthy freshness that really works alongside the concentration of the year. Ripe black fruits, balanced by mint leaf, avoids the baked fruit notes that are pretty widespread in the vintage, maintains lift and juice. Harvest September 12 to 30, 24hl/h yield. 35% new oak, 35% barrels of one wine, 20% in concrete eggs, 10% amphora for ageing. Jane Anson 93

Château Durfort-Vivens
2022 La Nature de Durfort-Vivens · Margaux · Biodynamique · sans sulfites ajoutés
‘’In a perpetual quest for natural balance and thanks to high-precision work in the cellar, i wanted to go even further by making a cuvée without any addition of sulfites. Therefore no more input disturbs the chemistry that naturally occurs between the terroir of Durfort-Vivens and its aromatic expression. Back to basics, back to authenticity ... This wine is called La Nature de Durfort-Vivens.’’ Gonzague Lurton, The Owner
2022 Château Durfort-Vivens · 2. Grand Cru Classé Margaux · Biodynamique
A blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon and 16% Merlot, the 2022 Durfort Vivens is a lovely wine that wafts from the glass with aromas of minty dark berries, sweet plums, licorice and burning embers. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and layered, it's rich and concentrated, with a deep and lively core of fruit framed by sweet, powdery tannins. WA 93-96

Château Palmer
2022 Alter Ego de Château Palmer · Margaux · Biodynamique
A blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot and 6% Petit Verdot, the 2022 Alter Ego de Palmer offers up aromas of cherries, wild berries and plums mingled with vine smoke and rose petals. Medium to full-bodied, deep and brooding, with a layered core of fruit, lively acids and rich, powdery tannins, it's a gourmand, voluptuous wine that will offer a broad drinking window. WA 91-93
2022 Château Palmer · 2. Grand Cru Classé · Margaux · Biodynamique
The 2022 Palmer is a wine of sublime beauty and refinement. Silky, caressing and super-expressive, the 2022 is also one of the most surprising wines of the year in that it does not show the drought or heat of the growing season at all, either in its flavour profile or feel.
Succulent black cherry, plum, leather, liquorice, spice and dried herbs lend notable complexity throughout. The 2022 starts off rather slow, and then really explodes on the back end. It is a magnificent wine in every way. Vinous 96-98

Château Beychevelle
2022 Château Beychevelle · 4. Grand Cru Classé · Saint-Julien
The 2022 Beychevelle was picked between 12 and 29 September at 36hL/ha and matured in 70% new oak.
It has an intense bouquet of black cherries, blueberries, and touches of cassis and violet. At this early stage, it is not as ostentatious as some other Saint-Julien wines but delineated and positively brims with energy. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit framed by beautifully sculpted tannins. The 2022 is very harmonious, satin-like in texture, and gently fans out toward the finish. It ends up being one of the most seductive Beychevelles I have tasted from barrel, one not to be overlooked. Vinous 95-97
Bord 11

Château Langoa Barton
2022 Château Langoa Barton · 3. Grand Cru Classé · Saint-Julien
The first vintage produced in the estate's new winery, which more than doubled the number of vats, permitting sub-plot by sub-plot vinification, the brilliant 2022 Langoa Barton offers up aromas of dark berries, cassis, violets and cigar wrapper, followed by a medium to full-bodied, deep and fleshy palate endowed with terrific depth and tension. Polished and penetrating, it should match or even surpass the 2019 and 2016 vintages, and it is sure to be one of the more intelligent purchases of the en primeur campaign. WA 93-95
Bord 12

Château Gruaud Larose
2022 Château Gruaud Larose · 2. Grand Cru Classé · Saint-Julien · Biologique
The progress at this estate continues with the terrific 2022 Gruaud Larose, a blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc that unfurls in the glass with deep aromas of minty blackberries, violets and pencil shavings. Medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, it's elegantly muscular, with a broad attack that segues into a concentrated mid-palate framed by supple, powdery tannins. Richer and more brooding than its 2020 and 2019 counterparts, it confirms Gruaud's return to the Saint-Julien élite. Around one-third of the production made it into the grand vin this year, the château's first with organic certification. WA 94-96

Château Pichon Baron
2023 Lions de Suduiraut · Bordeaux Blanc Sec · Sauternes
The 2023 Lions Sec de Suduiraut, a blend of 57% Sémillon, 30% Sauvignon Blanc and the rest Sauvignon Gris, possesses a varietal, fresh bouquet of herbs, lemon oil, spring flowers and white fruits. Juicy and tense with a moderately weighted mid-palate, it’s fresh and delicate with a delicately phenolic texture and a mouthwatering finish. WA 89
2022 Les Griffons de Pichon Baron · Pauillac
The 2022 Les Griffons de Pichon Baron is the more serious of the estate's two second wines, with Cabernet Sauvignon rather than Merlot dominating the blend. Revealing aromas of dark berries, cherries, spices and pencil shavings, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, with powdery tannins and a more structured profile than Les Tourelles. WA 90-92
2022 Château Pichon Baron · 2. Grand Cru Classé · Pauillac
An unusually gourmand, sensual wine from this estate, the 2022 Pichon-Longueville Baron bursts with aromas of crème de cassis, sweet dark berries, licorice, lilac and pencil shavings. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and velvety, with excellent concentration and a rather rich, supple profile. A blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon and 19% Merlot, it's the result of sub-block by sub-block picking and cooler than usual fermentation temperatures. WA 95-97
Bord 14

Pichon-Longueville Comtesse
2022 Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande · 2. Grand Cru Classé · Pauillac
The 2022 Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is one wine where a comparison with this estate's magical 1982 doesn't appear to be far-fetched. Wafting from the glass with deep aromas of cassis, plums, violets, rose petals, tobacco leaf and pencil shavings, it's full-bodied, supple and fleshy, with a layered, seamless core of fruit that largely conceals its chassis of powdery structuring tannin. Concluding with a long, expansive and beautifully perfumed finish, it's a blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc that has the potential to equal or even surpass the 2019 and 2016 vintages at this address. It checks in at a very classical 13.6% alcohol and a rather high pH of 3.80. WA 97-99
Bord 15

Château Duhart Milon
2022 Moulin de Duhart · Pauillac
Inky plum, this is packed with cassis and bilberry fruits, serious tannic architecture, tobacco leaf and sandalwood edging, with a wall of black pepper and rosemary spice on the finish. 15.5% press wine used, the most to date. Duhart Milon vineyard is looking at lowering density of planting because it can be extremely dry, so more challenging in these kind of years.
Jane Anson 90
2022 Château Duhart Milon · 2. Grand Cru Classé · Pauillac
The 2022 Duhart-Milon unwinds in the glass with aromas of dark berries, cedar box, loamy soil, herbs and spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, supple and velvety palate with a broad attack that segues into a lively, nicely concentrated core of fruit, concluding with a youthfully firm finish. WA 91-93
Bord 16

Château Lafite Rothschild
2022 Carruades de Lafite · Pauillac
Aromas of sweet cherries and berries mingled with hints of cedar box, loamy soil, warm spices, violets and orange zest introduce the 2022 Carruades de Lafite, a medium to full-bodied, bright and velvety blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. WA 91-93
2022 Château Lafite Rothschild · 1. Grand Cru Classé · Pauillac
A blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot, the 2022 Lafite Rothschild unwinds in the glass with aromas of dark berries, cassis, sweet soils tones, cigar box and lilac. Medium to full-bodied, it's the most tensile of the first growths this year, with a layered, concentrated but youthfully introverted mid-palate, lively acids and a long, saline finish. It checks in at a rather high pH of 3.85, which belies its incisive profile, from a harvest that extended from August 31 to September 24. WA 95-97
Garnet in color, a single swirl brings out its cornucopia of scents: flowers, currants, cherries, smoke, leather, lead pencil, Cuban cigar wrapper, orange rind and smoke. The wine is pure silky, elegance in texture. This is perhaps the most sensuous vintage of Lafite ever produced with its dream texture on the palate. In the mid-palate, the wine shifts from black to red to black fruits before moving to its wave of orange citrus, ending with refreshing mint notes. The purity in the fruits is striking. The over 60-second finish is seamless, which is a good thing, because this wine is so good, you never want it to end. The wine is complete from start to finish. The wine blends 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, and 1% Petit Verdot. It is interesting to note that the wine includes 17.5 % press wine in the blend, which sets a record for Lafite. 13.6% ABV, 3.85 pH. Harvesting starting August 31 for the young Merlot vines, for the grapes used in the Grand Vin, September 5, - September 23. Yields were 35 hectoliters per hectare. 40% of the harvest went into the Grand Vin. This is an earth-shattering vintage of Lafite that buyers with the disposabile income should add to their cellar. Drink from 2030-2065. Jeff Leve 99

2022 Château Haut-Bages Libéral · 5. Grand Cru Classé · Pauillac · Biodynamique
The 2022 Haut-Bages-Libéral is lovely, bursting with aromas of blackberries and cherries mingled with notions of orange zest, rose petals and violets. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and gourmand, with lively acids and a bright, chalky finish, its low pH of 3.54 reflects a decade of organic farming and the limestone subsoils that characterize this sector of Pauillac. Château Cos d'Estournel
2022 Pagodes de Cos · Saint-Estèphe
A hit of olive, bitter chocolate and salted caramel opens things up here, along with brambled fruits and plentiful tannins. 3.72ph, 20% new oak. Harvest September 7 to 23. 33% of the crop used in Pagodes this year, instead of the usual 50%, with all the rest in the 1st wine. 33hl/h yield. Blend finalised early December. Jane Anson 93
2022 Château Cos d'Estournel · 2. Grand Cru Classé · Saint-Estèphe
Inky colour with violet edging, this is full of intense damson, incense, baked plum and black chocolate. A huge quantity of tannins but the texture is velvety, giving a creamy edge to the fruits, with contrast and freshness provided by orange zest and slate. Some of the old Merlot vines on gravel were picked early to tame them but generally the vineyard took the vintage in its stride, and almost 75% of production is in the 1st wine. Harvest September 7 to 23, 33hl/h yield, 90IPT, 50% new oak. Potential upscore in bottle. Jane Anson 97
Bord 19

Château Larmande
2022 Château Larmande · Grand Cru Classé · Saint-Émilion
This estate has been routinely delivering excellent quality, and the 2022 Larmande is no exception, yet it still remains somewhat under the radar. Offering up aromas of sweet wild berries, plums, licorice and rose petals, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered, with a velvety attack that segues into a concentrated, vibrant core of fruit. It is sure to number among the best buys of the 2022 en primeur campaign. WA 92-94
Bord 20

The 2022 Fonroque wafts from the glass with sweet aromas of blackberries, cherries, licorice and petals, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy palate with vibrant acids, supple tannins and an intensely mineral finish. Farmed biodynamically for two decades under the direction of Alain Mouiex, this 17-hectare estate on the western extreme of Saint-Émilion's limestone plateau has gone from strength to strength in recent vintages. WA 92-94

Unwinding in the glass with aromas of dark berries, cherries, violets and creamy new oak, the 2022 Moulin St Georges is medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with powdery tannins and a taut, chalky profile. It should flesh out further with additional élevage. WA 90-92

Château Canon-La-Gaffeliere
2022 Château d'Aiguilhe · Castillon-Côtes de Bordeaux
Heavy clay soils before you hit limestone here, and the wine delivers unusual levels of sappy, pummice stone, juicy austerity for the vintage. Almost a granite edge to the tannins, floral aromatic intensity, bring blue and red fruits, and subtle spices of dill, sage and saffran. Excellent quality and value. 35hl/h yield, 30% new oak. Château Troplong Mondot
2022 Mondot de Château Troplong Mondot · Saint-Émilion Grand Cru
The 2022 Mondot is a somewhat different beast from previous renditions, as it now incorporates some newly acquired holdings, spanning a wider variety of expositions and altitudes, and includes Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon in addition to Merlot. All that explains why it is the best iteration of this bottling to date, and it is likely to number among the better values of the en primeur campaign. Bursting with aromas of mulberries, raspberries, incense and violets, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and layered, with a pure core of fruit, supple tannins and a lively, penetrating finish. Some 40% of the blend is maturing in tank. WA 92-94
2022 Château Troplong Mondot · 1. Grand Cru Classé · Saint-Émilion
A wine that transcended both my lofty expectations and anything produced at this address in the last 50 years, the 2022 Troplong Mondot realizes all the potential of this striking terroir. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of dark berries, cherries, exotic spices, bay leaf and orange zest, it's full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, with incredible concentration without weight, supple tannins and a seamless, complete profile, concluding with a long, saline finish. All the work of the last few years in the vineyards and winery makes itself felt, as Troplong Mondot's vineyards took the hot, dry conditions in their stride, and the quality of the fruit that they produced has been preserved by a gentle vinification and a discreet élevage, featuring only 55% new oak and some 20% of the volume in large foudres. Château Beauséjour
2022 Château Beauséjour · 1. Grand Cru Classé · Saint-Émilion
Just so good, so much uplift, direction and power, with vivid violet reflections to the ruby coloured fruit. Intense and concentrated on the opening, then a soaring limestone juice comes in through the mid palate, with the whole thing showing precision and character. A jumbled, joyful mix of blueberry, cassis, peony, roses, pummice stone and slate limestone, cocoa bean and coffee, showing real depth and seduction. This is always one of the wines that for me most leans in to the character of limestone, and you really feel the full impact in this hot year. Old vines 45 years average. Stopped all punch down during fermentation, now only soft pumpovers and infusion. Axel Marchal and Julien Viaud consultants. Highest Cabernet Franc percentage in the estate's history, and a full 40hl/h yield, 3.5ph. Potential 100. Jane Anson 98-100

Château Rocheyron
2019 La Fleur de Rocheyron · Saint-Émilion Grand Cru
2022 Château Rocheyron · Saint-Émilion Grand Cru · Biologique
Stunning glass-staining colour, straight away this shows subtlety among the intensity of the vintage, with a slow build up of floral red rose aromatics, and the imprint of limestone that is expertly judged, balancing the energy that it brings with the exotic intensity of the ripe fruits. Creamy lush blackberry, raspberry and blueberry, expands through the palate, then contracts again as the pummice stone and saffron salinity comes in, each playing off the other. Get tension and grip, finishing with bitter orange peel and a smile. Worth noting that the blend is probably final, but Sisseck is not a winemaker to be bound by it if he feels something works better over ageing (worth noting also that the knowledge he says he gained from Ribero del Duero is that you have to be very hands off during fermentation in these kind of vintages because it is easy to go too far). 35% new oak, 32hl/h yield, 7.5ha. Château Figeac
2022 Château Figeac · Premier Grand Cru Classé A · Saint-Émilion
A blend of 35% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Franc and 31% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2022 Figeac is a brilliant wine with which to celebrate this property's elevation to Premier Grand Cru Classé "A" status. Wafting from the glass with aromas of raspberries and cassis mingled with notions of iris, forest floor, cigar wrapper and pencil lead, it's medium to full-bodied, pure and perfumed, with a deep and multidimensional core of fruit, bright acids and beautifully refined tannins. Serious yet civilized, it's the quintessential Figeac, testament to the late Thierry Manoncourt's vision to plant such a large proportion of Cabernet, and on drought-resistant rootstocks. Such is the inherent complexity of Figeac's terroirs that harvest took place sub-block by sub-block between September 1st and 25th. Congratulations are in order for the Manoncourt family, director Frédéric Faye, consulting winemaker Thomas Duclos and all their team. WA 98-100

Château Bélair Monange
2022 Château Bélair Monange · Premier Grand Cru Classé B · Saint-Émilion
Aromas of blackberries, cherry preserve, black tea and licorice introduce the 2022 Belair Monange, a full-bodied, deep and powerful wine with a layered, somewhat liqueured core of fruit, powdery tannins and a long, expansive and slightly heady finish. Perhaps because the vines are younger, this is the cuvée in the Mouiex portfolio that shows the ripeness of the vintage the most this year. WA 94-95

Château La Conseillante
2022 Duo de Conseillante · Pomerol
2022 Château La Conseillante · Pomerol
The 2022 La Conseillante is a remarkable wine that has the potential to emerge as one of the wines of the vintage. A blend of 87% Merlot and 13% Cabernet Franc, it unfurls in the glass with deep aromas of black raspberries and mulberries mingled with notions of rose petals, violets, orange zest and mint. Medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, it's velvety and enveloping, with a textural attack that segues into a multidimensional mid-palate that's framed by sweet, powdery tannins, concluding with a long, saline finish. Checking in at a very healthy pH of 3.65 and 14% alcohol, it is a beautifully supple, suave wine that retains all this estate's signature elegance but in a slightly deeper-pitched and broader-shouldered format than the profound 2020. Congratulations to winemaker Marielle Cazaux, consulting enologist Thomas Duclos, the Nicolas family led by Jean-Valmy, and all the team at La Conseillante who have firmly established this estate at the very top of Pomerol's qualitative hierarchy in recent vintages. Château Tournefeuille
2022 Château Tournefeuille · Lalande de Pomerol
This is subtle yet generous in feel, with seductive notes of gently mulled plum and black cherry that glide along over the velvety structure. The finish is infused with black tea and sandalwood. Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2032. WS 91
Deep dark ruby, opaque core, purple reflections, subtle brightening on the rim. Ripe plums, dark sweet cherries, soft hints of nougat and candied orange zest. Juicy, elegant, fresh cherries, wild red berries, lively structure with a mineral, citrus finish, a stimulating food wine. Falstaff 92
2022 Château Tournefeuille 'La Cure' · Lalande de Pomerol
This small-production bottling from the most high-quality clay sections of the Tournefeuille vineyard is particularly intense in the 2022 vintage. Luscious in its velvety texture, there is a sense of high alcohol in the width and suppleness of the mid palate but it is balanced and given succulence by a ton of liqourice, black cherry, blueberry, brambled loganberries and even cranberries, adding a shot of freshness. Impressive, one to look out for, and a significant step up from the main estate wine. Jane Anson 94
